Berenstain Bears co-creator Jan Berenstain dies
Jan Berenstain, who with her husband Stan created the Berenstain Bears books that have charmed preschoolers and their parents for 50 years, has died. She was 88.
Mike Berenstain says his mother suffered a severe stroke on Thursday and died Friday without regaining consciousness. She was a longtime resident of Solebury in southeastern Pennsylvania.
The Berestains’ gentle stories of Mama Bear, Papa Bear, Brother Bear and Sister Bear address childhood subjects like coping with new siblings, summer camp and peer pressure.
Stan and Jan Berenstain, both Philadelphia natives, were 18 when they met on their first day at art school in 1941. Stan Berenstain died in 2005.
The first Berenstain Bears book, “The Big Honey Hunt,” was published in 1962. More than 300 titles have been released in 23 languages.
I love these books.  Sad.

Part of my childhood has died

Great song turned onto me by the great Bob Lefsetz.  If you’re a musician and you’re not reading the Lefsetz Letter, Google it and subscribe.  You’ll be glad you did.  This song is like borrowing Dad’s convertible for a nighttime drive in July at the age of eighteen.

Found this note on my door Tuesday morning - had to respond before I went to work. “The Bachelor” fantasy pools make that show so much more enjoyable.

Why MegaUpload was actually shut down

thetalkinghead:

In December of 2011, just weeks before the takedown, Digital Music News reported on something new that the creators of #Megauploadwere about to unroll. Something that would rock the music industry to its core. (http://goo.gl/A7wUZ)

I present to you… MegaBox. MegaBox was going to be an alternative music store that was entirely cloud-based and offered artists a better money-making opportunity than they would get with any record label.

“UMG knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings,” MegaUpload founder Kim ‘Dotcom’ Schmitz told Torrentfreak

Not only did they plan on allowing artists to keep 90% of their earnings on songs that they sold, they wanted to pay them for songs they let users download for free.

“We have a solution called the Megakey that will allow artists to earn income from users who download music for free,” Dotcom outlined. “Yes that’s right, we will pay artists even for free downloads. The Megakey business model has been tested with over a million users and it works.”

Down with the RIAA.  MegaUpload may have been a little shady, but if this model exists, I’d like to see it in practice…

Friday Night Lights: The Taylors Leave TexasWe never thought we’d see the day that Coach Taylor would leave Dillon for good, but when Tami got a job on the East Coast and said it was her turn to succeed, he followed her. Leaving us, and the whole state of Texas, both proud and depressed.
Television Without Pity:  YEAR IN REVIEW 2011: MOST MEMORABLE TV MOMENTS

I just started watching this series, and I’m blowing through it on Netflix.  It is so good.  Coach Taylor is way up in the running for “kind of Dad I want to be when I grow up,” in the rarefied air previously populated by Sandy Cohen.
